5 best-, worst-paying states for dental hygienists

Based on annual wages, dental hygienists make the most on average in Alaska and make the least in Alabama, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The federal agency updated its salary data for dental jobs to reflect 2022 information on April 25.

The best-paying states for dental hygienists:

1. Alaska: $113,770

2. California: $111,580

3. Washington: $111,430

4. Oregon: $95,360

5. New Jersey: $94,610

The worst-paying states for dental hygienists:

1. Alabama: $53,870

2. Mississippi: $60,490

3. West Virginia: $64,280

4. Tennessee: $68,450

5. Michigan: $70,190
