76% of dentists work in single-practice locations

More than 75 percent of dentists practice at single-location offices, according to data from the American Dental Association’s Health Policy Institute.

Thirty-six percent of dentists work at a practice that has one location and one dentist, while 40 percent of dentists work at a practice that has one location and more than one dentist, according to the data, which reflects 2022 information. 

Here are the percentage of dentists that work in each practice size:

100 or more locations: 9 percent

50-99 locations: 2 percent

10-49 locations: 3 percent

Two to nine locations: 10 percent

One location and more than one dentist: 40 percent

One location and one dentist: 36 percent
