US dental schools with the lowest acceptance rates

Pomona, Calif.-based Western University of Health Sciences College of Dental Medicine has a 2.5 percent acceptance rate — the lowest among U.S. dental schools — according to academic consulting website BeMo.  

Here are the schools with the 10 lowest acceptance rates and their number of applicants in 2023:

1. Western University of Health Sciences College of Dental Medicine (Pomona, Calif.): 2.5 percent acceptance rate; 2,856 applicants

2. Meharry Medical College (Nashville): 2.9 percent acceptance rate; 2,578 applicants

3. Medical University of South Carolina James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine (Charleston): 2.74 percent acceptance rate; 2,842 applicants

4. Harvard University School of Dental Medicine (Boston): 3.18 percent acceptance rate; 1,100 applicants

5. Case Western Reserve University School of Dentistry (Cleveland): 3.2 percent acceptance rate; 2,315 applicants

6. Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine School of Dental Medicine (Bradenton, Fla.): 3.2 percent acceptance rate; 3,330 applicants

7. University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine (Aurora): 3.77 percent acceptance rate; number of applicants not available

8. University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine (Farmington): 3.83 percent acceptance rate; 1,332 applicants

9. Missouri School of Dentistry & Oral Health (Kirksville): 3.92 percent acceptance rate; 1,609 applicants

10. Marquette University School of Dentistry (Milwaukee): 4.4 percent acceptance rate; 2,437 applicants
