The highest-paying metropolitan area for dental hygienists is the San Francisco-Oakland-Hayward, Calif., region, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The agency released updated compensation data April 3 to reflect May 2023 information, the latest available. 

Here are the 10 highest-paying metropolitan regions for dental hygienists, along with the annual mean wage for each area:

1. San Francisco-Oakland-Hayward, Calif.: $138,960

2. San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, Calif.: $138,730

3. Santa Maria-Santa Barbara, Calif.: $133,420

4. Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue, Wash.: $130,460

5. Santa Rosa, Calif.: $127,130

6. Napa, Calif.: $125,610

7. Santa Cruz-Watsonville, Calif.: $125,180

8. Salinas, Calif.: $122,970

9. Bremerton-Silverdale, Wash.: $121,970

10. Mount Vernon-Anacortes, Wash.: $120,220
