California currently has the most dental professional shortage areas in the U.S., according to data from the Health Resources & Services Administration.

The data, updated Dec. 16, shows that the U.S. has 7,067 dental professional shortage areas and needs 10,153 practitioners in order to fill them. 

Here are five states with the most dental professional shortage areas:

Most

California: 532

Alaska: 337

Missouri: 323

Florida: 274

Texas: 261
