5 states with the most, fewest periodontists

California is the state with the most periodontists, while North Dakota and Wyoming have the fewest, according to data from the Kaiser Family Foundation.

The health policy nonprofit recorded the number of active dentists in seven specialties, including general dentistry, oral surgery and orthodontics. The data was collected as part of a special request from the American Dental Association.

California: 804

New York: 530

Texas: 429

Florida: 426

New Jersey: 266

North Dakota: 5

Wyoming: 5

Alaska: 7

South Dakota: 9

Vermont: 11
