Annual net income for private practice specialists in 2022

The average net income for a specialist in private practice in 2022 varied greatly based on the specialty, with oral and maxillofacial surgeons earning the most out of any, according to data from the American Dental Association’s Health Policy Institute.

The data was gathered as part of the ADA’s annual “Survey of Dental Practice” report.

Here are the average net incomes of four different dental specialties in 2022:

Oral and maxillofacial surgeons: $479,550

Orthodontists and dentofacial orthopedists: $284,060

Pediatric dentists: $307,820

Periodontists: $355,400
