Oral surgeons and maxillofacial surgeons have the highest mean hourly wage in North Carolina, where they make an average of $173.79 per hour, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The agency released updated compensation data April 3 to reflect May 2023 information, the latest available. 

Here is the mean hourly wage for oral and maxillofacial surgeons in nine states:

Iowa: $143.66

Kentucky: $135.12

Massachusetts: $166.75

Michigan: $147.39
