Dental hygienists have an average annual salary of $82,470 in Illinois, the best-ranked state for dental health in 2025.

Personal finance site WalletHub ranked all 50 states and Washington, D.C., across two main categories: dental habits and health and oral health. The rankings were published Jan. 30. 

Compensation data for dental hygienists is from the Bureau of Labor Statistics

Here is the average annual wage for dental hygienists in the 10 best states for dental health in 2025:

1. Illinois: $82,470

2. Minnesota: $90,140

3. Wisconsin: $80,450

4. Michigan: $76,800

5. Connecticut: $94,220

6. Idaho: $84,390

7. North Dakota: $80,130

8. Washington, D.C.: $113,600

9. Massachusetts: $96,410

10. Ohio: $79,260
