Dental hygienists have an average annual salary of $78,040 in Arkansas, the worst-ranked state for dental health in 2025.

Personal finance site WalletHub ranked all 50 states and Washington, D.C., across two main categories: dental habits and health and oral health. The rankings were published Jan. 30. 

Compensation data for dental hygienists is from the Bureau of Labor Statistics

Here is the average annual wage for dental hygienists in the 10 worst states for dental health in 2025:

Arkansas: $78,040

Mississippi: $62,120

West Virginia: $68,820

Texas: $87,270

Louisiana: $78,980

Montana: $88,990

Alaska: $115,980

Kentucky: $73,850

Alabama: $54,460

Florida: $81,180
