General dentists had an average annual income of $207,980 in 2024, according to data from the American Dental Association’s Health Policy Institute.
When compared to other healthcare professions, general dentists have a lower average income than surgeons, physicians and specialty dentists, but bring in more than pharmacists, healthcare practitioners and registered nurses.
The November report from the ADA compared the average income-adjusted annual income of seven healthcare professions, including general dentists:
Physicians (surgeons): $354,760
Specialist dentists: $338,900
Physicians (family medicine and internist): $259,064
General dentists: $207,980
Pharmacists: $137,210
Healthcare practitioners: $105,220
Registered nurses: $98,430
