How patients feel about dental AI: 7 survey takeaways

Four out of 10 dental patients would switch their dentist to one that utilizes AI, according to a recent survey conducted by dental AI company Overjet. 

Here are six more things to know from the Overjet Patient Survey 2025 of 1,000 patients, which was shared with Becker’s.

  1. Nearly half (48%) of respondents said that their oral health is “extremely important.”
  2. Almost one-third said that their dentist currently uses AI to analyze X-rays.
  3. More than 40% believe that it is “important” or “very important” for their dentist to use the latest dental technology, including dental AI. About one-third said that is “not important” to them. 
  4. A large majority (85%) of respondents would be more confident in their dental diagnosis if they could clearly see the problem themselves.
  5. Almost three-quarters of patients said that they would be more likely to accept a dentist’s diagnosis and treatment plan if it were presented with AI findings.
  6. When it comes to AI in healthcare, 40% of respondents are excited or optimistic, 26% are worried or pessimistic and 34% are neutral or unsure.
