International organization names U of Michigan School of Dentistry No. 1 in world

The University of Michigan School of Dentistry in Ann Arbor was named the best dental school in the world for the fifth consecutive year by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, an international organization that rates universities and programs.

Shanghai’s annual Global Ranking of Academic Subjects ranks universities in 54 subjects across natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences and social sciences. The organization takes into consideration multiple factors when placing universities on the list, including quality, published research, international collaboration and international academic awards given to faculty.

The Dental and Oral Sciences category included 300 institutions. Here are the four other schools included in the top five:

  • University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
  • King’s College London (United Kingdom)
  • Harvard University (Boston)
  • University of California, San Francisco
