Number of dentists in the best, worst states for dental health

There are nearly 8,500 dentists in Illinois, the highest-ranked state for dental health in the U.S. 

Personal finance website Wallethub recently ranked states based on dental habits and oral healthcare, using metrics such as the share of individuals who visited a dentist in the past year, dental treatment costs and adults who experience pain due to their oral health condition.

Here are the number of dentists in the best and worst states for dental health, according to data from the American Dental Association:

Illinois: 8,464

Minnesota: 3,404

Wisconsin: 3,282

Connecticut: 2,526

Idaho: 1,090

Worst

Mississippi: 1,282

West Virginia: 856

Arkansas: 1,242

Texas: 16,692

Alaska: 580
