The ADA’s “Economic Outlook and Emerging Issues in Dentistry” poll from the fourth quarter of 2024 asked more than 900 dentists in private practice about their thoughts on water fluoridation.
Of the 901 respondents, 82% strongly support and 10% somewhat support water fluoridation. Only 5% of dentists either somewhat or strongly oppose the measure.
More than 70% of dentists reported that patients in their dental practices “never” or “rarely” expressed concerns about fluoride in toothpaste or drinking water.
Nearly 100% of dentists educate patients about fluoride through a discussion with a dentist or dental hygienist.
The topic of water fluoridation has been heavily debated in recent months, with some states considering removing fluoride from its water.
