2 Florida cities vote to continue water fluoridation

Officials in Port Orange and Cocoa, Fla., have recently voted to keep fluoride in their water supplies. 

Five notes: 

1. The Cocoa City Council voted 4-1 to restore its water fluoridation program after replacing broken equipment.  

2. Cocoa Mayor Mike Blake also voiced his support for fluoride, clickorlando.com reported March 19.

3. It will take several months for the city to replace the broken equipment needed to add fluoride, and will cost about $700,000.

4. The Port Orange City Council voted 3-2 to keep fluoride in the city’s water supply, newsdaytonabeach.com reported March 21.

5. The recent votes from the two cities go against several other cities in the state that have opted to end water fluoridation as national debate about the practice continues.
