The American Dental Association and Bayer collaborated to create a teaching tool that recommends considering nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs to manage acute pain.

The tool explains that NSAID medication either alone or taken with acetaminophen has been demonstrated to be an effective pain management approach to offset opioid use.

The reference, “Non-Opioid Management of Acute Dental Extraction Pain,” is included in the Sept. 21 print edition of ADA News. Bayer is also distributing the “ADA Dental Drug Handbook” to all third- and fourth-year dental students at U.S. dental schools during the 2020-21 school year.
