ADA seeks dental volunteers to provide pediatric oral care in Kentucky

Global Dental Relief, a humanitarian organization that delivers free dental care to children worldwide, is recruiting volunteers for a dental clinic in Jenkins, Ky., according to a March 8 post by the American Dental Association.

Volunteers will work four days in an established clinic to provide free dental care to local families. The organization is seeking help from dentists, hygienists, assistants and general volunteers.

"Jenkins is a small bucolic community, situated in the southeast corner of Kentucky, close to the Virginia border," according to the Global Dental Relief site. "Historically Jenkins was a center for the Appalachian coal mining industry. Recent studies in the area indicate that more than 53 percent of children between the ages of 9 and 12 have untreated [caries]."

Trip dates are:
• March 16-21
• March 23-28
• Sept. 21-26
• Sept. 28 to Oct. 3
