The National Commission on Recognition of Dental Specialties and Certifying Boards on March 28 recognized the American Board of Orofacial Pain as the national certifying board for orofacial pain specialists.

The American Board of Orofacial Pain will administer the board certification examination to dentists who complete an accredited advanced education program in orofacial pain.

The group’s recognition comes after the National Commission on Recognition of Dental Specialties and Certifying Boards passed a resolution to recognize orofacial pain as a dental specialty two years ago. The orofacial board submitted an application in December 2020 for recognition in which it had to prove it met all the requirements needed for recognition.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Future of Dentistry Roundtable, taking place September 14-15 in Chicago, dental leaders and executives will gain insights into emerging technologies, practice growth strategies and the evolving landscape of dental care delivery, with a focus on innovation, patient experience and operational excellence.
