Federal government could bring back HIPAA compliance audits — 2 notes for dentists

The U.S. Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights may bring back an audit program that checks covered entities and business associates for compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.

Here are two notes for dentists:

1. The audit program was last used in 2017, the American Dental Association said March 21.
2. HHS published a notice in February proposing an online survey that would be to entities and business associates that participated in the last audit program to gather information about the effects of the audits and participants' opinions about the process.
