The American Dental Association, the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations and the American Board of Dental Examiners have begun discussions focused on advancing dental hygiene licensure assessment.
The collaboration builds on the organizations’ April 2026 agreement to incorporate the ADA’s Dental Licensure Objective Structured Clinical Examination into the ADEX Dental Examination. Now, the organizations are exploring opportunities to align dental hygiene licensure examination content, evaluation methods and candidate experience, according to an Oct. 5 news release.
ADEX Chair Mark Armstrong, DDS, said the goal is to advance dental hygiene licensure while preserving clinical standards. The organizations said they anticipate continued engagement over the coming months as they explore best practices and opportunities to support consistent and modern dental hygiene licensure examination standards.
