The American Dental Association is urging the EPA to utilize evidence-based studies and analyses during any review of the safety of fluoride in drinking water, according to a June 12 news release from the ADA.
Here are five things to know:
- The ADA also called on the EPA to apply Safe Drinking Water Act review protocols and disregard literature and studies that do not meet the standards.
- The act requires the EPA to follow certain protocols while weighing changes to its national primary drinking water regulations.
- The organization compiled a list of studies that are likely suitable for a six-year review.
- The ADA is set to release the latest version of its fluoridation resource in June.
- In April, the EPA said that it will “expeditiously review” new information on the potential health risks of fluoride.
