The American Dental Association has launched a task force to increase collaboration between specialty dental organizations.

The ADA adopted a resolution to create the task force in order to identify opportunities for joint initiatives and to explore strategies to boost specialist membership in the ADA, according to a Jan. 27 news release.

The Task Force on Specialty Engagement includes representatives from across all recognized dental specialties, as well as the Academy of General Dentistry. Some of the specialty organizations included in the task force include the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Academy of Periodontology and the American Association of Endodontists, among others.

Orthodontist Randall Markarian, DMD, was appointed chair of the task force.

The group held an inaugural meeting earlier this month. Following each meeting, the task force will submit progress reports to the ADA Board of Trustees with recommendations for the board’s consideration.
