The American Dental Association will be implementing $20 million in budget cuts in an effort to balance its budget and recover from deficit spending.

The ADA said Aug. 7 that its Board of Trustees approved its 2025 budget in July. The cuts will affect several ADA programs and also include staff reductions, changes to the organization’s outreach strategies and reductions in operational and volunteer expenses.

The ADA has suspended the launch of several new programs, including its AFI Certified Program and the ADA Loyalty Program. Investments in new product development and the work of the Innovation Advisory Committee was also suspended, the ADA said.

The organization said it used $142 million of its reserve funds between March 2022 and March 2025 to support several key priorities, including system upgrades and advocacy initiatives.
