More than 100 members of the American Association of Orthodontists met with federal lawmakers in Washington, D.C., to advocate for policies related to orthodontic care.
The AAO spoke with legislators on several topics promoting patient care and orthodontics, including patient health and safety, flexible healthcare spending and student loan debt relief, according to a March 12 news release shared with Becker’s.
Three notes:
1. The AAO said it is urging lawmakers to strengthen patient protections against mail-order orthodontic treatment models.
2. The organization asked lawmakers to support initiatives related to Flexible Spending Accounts and Health Savings Accounts, including eliminating the “use-it-or-lose-it” rule for FSA and allowing people to roll over unused FSA and Health Reimbursement Arrangement contributions into HSAs for long-term savings.
3. The AAO also backed two bills that would provide relief to student loan borrowers, the Resident Education Deferred Interest Act and the Student Loan Refinancing and Recalculation Act.
