Previously, the guidance stated that aerosol-generating procedures for all patients should be avoided, regardless of the patient’s COVID-19 status, according to a July 16 ADA news release.
If procedures for these patients are necessary, the CDC recommends performing the procedure in an airborne infection isolation room and that only essential dental healthcare personnel should be present during the procedure. All personnel present should wear N95 masks or masks that provide equal or higher-level protection, as well as gloves, a gown and eye protection. Procedure room surfaces also should be disinfected according to CDC guidelines.
