Thirteen dental groups submitted comments to the U.S. Department of Education advocating for certain measures to be taken to protect student loan borrowers under a new proposal.
Four notes:
1. The comments were submitted in response to the Education Department’s proposal to ban employers from the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program for 10 years if they are found to be taking part in activities with a “substantial illegal purpose.”
2. The groups said that while they support the department’s mission to remove bad actors, they want the department to ensure that dentists are not negatively affected if their employer is removed from the program.
3. The groups made several recommendations for the proposal while also stating that interruptions in care delivery should be avoided while claims against employers are substantiated.
4. The dental organizations that signed the letter include the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry and the American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research.
