Three dental organizations joined a coalition of groups urging Congress members to oppose cuts to the HHS Department.
A draft budget proposal from the Office of Management and Budget recommended cutting the HHS Department’s discretionary funding by approximately 30%.
Coalition members wrote a letter to Congressional leaders emphasizing the importance of protecting HHS funding, calling the draft proposal “dangerous” and “devastating.”
“It would put our nation’s health and security at risk by defunding, and in some cases eliminating, vital programs that monitor and defend against infectious and chronic disease, battle opioid and mental health epidemics, protect the public against environmental and occupational health threats, reduce preventable injuries, address public health emergencies and deliver high-quality care to veterans, seniors and other Americans,” the letter states.
The American Dental Association, the American Dental Education Association and the American Association for Dental, Oral and Craniofacial Research signed the letter, along with more than 530 other organizations.
