The Miami-Dade County Commission voted to remove fluoride from its water supply, CBS News Miami reported April 1.
Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava has 10 days to veto the measure. Otherwise, the measure will go into effect in 30 days.
Florida communities have debated the effects of water fluoridation since the state’s surgeon general cited several studies showing the risks associated with the practice in November. Several other cities have voted to discontinue water fluoridation, while lawmakers are also considering a bill to ban water fluoridation statewide.
