The HHS Department will continue with its plans to look into the effects of fluoride exposure on children’s health, according to the Make American Healthy Again Commission’s latest report.
Seven notes:
1. The HHS Department’s Make America Healthy Again Commission released its strategy for supporting children’s health Sept. 9.
2. The report includes 120 initiatives aimed at realigning incentives, increasing public awareness and strengthening private-sector collaboration.
3. The commission included fluoride in a list of substances that may affect children’s health, and cited research showing a link between fluoride exposure and reduced IQ levels in children.
4. The commission said EPA will review scientific information on the potential risks associated with drinking fluoridated water to inform CDC recommendations.
5. The report also stated that the FDA will take action against unapproved products marketed as supplements.
6. The commission’s report comes after the HHS Department announced in May that the FDA would begin removing ingestible fluoride prescription drug products for children, claiming that these products were never approved by the FDA and that ingested fluoride has been shown to alter the gut microbiome.
7. HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has celebrated anti-fluoride measures several times since stepping into his role, and has previously voiced his plans to scale back the amount of fluoride in the country’s drinking water.
