Several bills have been filed in Iowa and Tennessee to restrict the addition of fluoride in water systems.
Five notes:
1. Iowa House File 2395 would ban adding fluoride to both public and private water supplies.
2. Tennessee companion bills SB 2304 and HB 2471 would prohibit public water systems from adding fluoride to drinking water and prohibit the sale of bottled water that contains added fluoride. It also requires actions to be taken for naturally occurring fluoride that exceeds certain levels in drinking water and bottled water.
3. Tennessee is also considering two other companion bills, SB 0162 and HB 2396, which would prohibit public water system operators from adding fluoride to their water systems.
4. Florida and Utah became the first two states to ban water fluoridation last year.
5. Several other states have introduced fluoride bills this year. Arizona Senate Bill 1019 would ban public water fluoridation in the state. Kentucky House Bill 103 would make water fluoridation optional in the state.
