North Carolina health department releases updated dental opioid action plan

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services released an updated version of its Dental Opioid Action Plan to help address the opioid epidemic.

The plan provides dental practitioners with steps to prescribe opioids judiciously and support patients. It was created in collaboration with the North Carolina Dental Society, dental specialty providers, state and local partners, and public health representatives. 

The action plan identifies six strategies, including reducing oversupply of prescription opioids, increasing community awareness and expanding treatment access.
