North Carolina weighs dental board reform bill

North Carolina legislators are considering a bill that would change how members are appointed to the state dental board.

The North Carolina State Board of Dental Examiners is currently made up of six members, all of whom are selected by other members.

House Bill 1033, introduced April 21, would increase the number of board members to 10. This would include two consumer advocates who are not affiliated with the dental industry or married to a dentist or hygienist. The bill would also bump up the number of hygienists on the board from one to two. The remaining six spots would be held by dentists.

Members would also be appointed by government officials instead of other members.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Future of Dentistry Roundtable, taking place September 14-15 in Chicago, dental leaders and executives will gain insights into emerging technologies, practice growth strategies and the evolving landscape of dental care delivery, with a focus on innovation, patient experience and operational excellence.
