Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sent Civil Investigative Demands to Colgate-Palmolive and Proctor & Gamble.
The investigation was launched into the two toothpaste manufactures for marketing their products in ways that are “misleading, deceptive and dangerous,” according to a May 1 news release from the attorney general’s office.
The CDC and American Dental Association recommend very small amounts of fluoride toothpaste for young children. Manufacturers flavor their toothpaste and market them in ways to ingest fluoride and mislead parents to using more than the recommended amount, the release said.
The CIDs sent to Colgate and Proctor & Gamble aim to discover potential wrongdoing, Mr. Paxton said.
