HB81 was introduced to the state’s House of Representatives in January and sent forward to the Senate more than a month later. The Senate passed the bill Feb. 21.

While prohibiting the addition of fluoride to public water supplies, the bill allows people to visit a pharmacist for fluoride supplements to support dental health.

Dental professionals opposed the bill, sharing that water fluoridation is a key factor for improving children’s dental health and that requiring prescriptions places additional burdens on communities.

The bill has been sent to Gov. Spencer Cox for his final signature.
