The American Dental Association Clinical Evaluators Panel surveyed 277 respondents in November 2022. Of the 17 percent who have 3D printers, 67 percent have been using it for less than two years.
The top responses for the advantages of having a 3D printer are:
- Improved efficiency: 68 percent
- Reduced cost: 44 percent
- Improved communication with patients: 20 percent
- Reduced chair time: 20 percent
- Better outcomes: 20 percent
Here are the top responses for the reasons why dentists do not have a 3D printer in their practice:
- A dental laboratory fabricates all my clinical devices: 44 percent
- The financial investment is too high: 39 percent
- Do not need it or see a clinical benefit yet: 34 percent
According to the report, 21 percent of dentists without a 3D printer are considering buying one, and 35 percent are considering completing 3D printing training.
