Several class-action lawsuits have been filed against insurance companies and technology companies in 2025.
Here are three lawsuit filings recently covered by Becker’s:
1. Alpharetta, Ga.-based OrthoMinds, a provider of orthodontic practice management software, is facing a class-action lawsuit after its recent data breach. The lawsuit was filed in the United States District Court of the Northern District Of Georgia March 24, alleging that the company failed to properly safeguard protected health information, causing harm to those whose information was exposed and accessed. The class action seeks to cover all individuals in the U.S. whose information was exposed as a result of the data breach, according to court documents.
2. Dennis Ayer, DDS, of Leawood, Kan., filed a lawsuit March 31 against Zelis Healthcare, UnitedHealth Group, Elevance Health, Aetna and The Cigna Group. The dentist alleges that the companies used repricing strategies to underpay claims submitted by medical and dental providers for out-of-network services, according to court documents. The dentist’s legal team has requested that the case be certified as a class-action lawsuit and be given a jury trial.
3. A proposed class-action lawsuit was filed against Dentsply Sirona and Byte, alleging breaches of contract and implied warranty, false advertising and deceptive practices. The lawsuit was filed March 7 and seeks to cover consumers in Florida who purchased a Byte Aligner System and Impression Kit. It alleges that the companies’ advertisements targeted “financially vulnerable victims” as an affordable and accessible option to improve smiles, despite the clear aligners allegedly being proven to be “ineffective and dangerous to consumers.” The lawsuit aims to rectify alleged damages that class members have suffered and to stop the further sales of the aligners.
