The Evidence-Based Dentistry Faculty and Practice Awards are given to those who have made significant contributions to implement and advance evidence-based dentistry, the ADA said in an Oct. 10 news release.

The recipients are Gregg Gilbert, DDS, recipient of the EBD Accomplished Faculty Award; JoAnna Scott, PhD, recipient of the EBD Mid-Career Faculty Award; and Martha Ann Keels, DDS, PhD, recipient of the EBD Practice Award.

Dr. Gilbert is a distinguished professor and chair of the clinical and community sciences department at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry. He is also the founding director of the National Dental Practice-Based Research Network, which connects clinical researchers with dental practices for evaluation of oral health strategies. The network has conducted more than 50 studies and published more than 190 peer-reviewed scientific journal articles.

Dr. Scott is an associate professor in the Office of Research and Graduate Programs at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry, where as a biostatistician she educates and supports more than 100 professionals and students in conducting oral health research.

Dr. Keels practices at Duke Street Pediatric Dentistry in Durham, N.C., and as a general anesthesia services provider at nearby Duke Health. She also holds several other positions — including adjunct associate professor of pediatrics and associate consulting professor of surgery at Duke University Medical Center — and is a member of two ADA expert panels. She was previously a member of the ADA Council on Scientific Affairs, where she chaired a subcommittee that oversaw the ADA’s evidence-based dentistry program.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Future of Dentistry Roundtable, taking place September 14-15 in Chicago, dental leaders and executives will gain insights into emerging technologies, practice growth strategies and the evolving landscape of dental care delivery, with a focus on innovation, patient experience and operational excellence.
