Here are some of the considerations dentists should know about when implementing discount dental plans:

  • Dentists should have their plan’s design reviewed by a state department of healthcare management. The department will evaluate how the plan is marketed and sold to patients.
  • Dentists should make patients aware of certain details, such as the dollar amount for non-discounted service fees, the dollar amount or percentage of the discount, how long the discount will be offered, any additional fees and who qualifies for the discounts.
  • The American Dental Association offers a toolkit for dentists to determine if a discount dental plan is right for their practice. Dentists can calculate the estimated financial changes the plan could bring to their practice.
