Former Charleston, W. Va.-based Skaff Family Dentistry dentist Antione Skaff, DDS, plead guilty to healthcare fraud. He started his five year federal prison sentence in December 2017, the Charleston Gazette-Mail reports.
Here are four notes:
1. Dr. Skaff admitted to fraudulently billing West Virginia Medicaid and West Virginia Medicaid Managed Care Organizations. He pled guilty to healthcare fraud as part of plea deal in August 2017.
2. While only providing $656,130 in Medicaid services, Dr. Skaff billed Medicaid for more than $1.4 million.
3. The government argued between January 2011 and August 2016 Dr. Skaff committed around 7,836 individual acts of fraud.
4. Federal prosecutors also alleged Dr. Skaff provided opioid dependent patients prescriptions for his financial gain.
