Arizona dental board unanimously votes to allow arrested dentist to keep license: 5 insights

Despite his arrest for forgery and fraudulent schemes, the Arizona Dental Board voted to allow Pankaj Goyal, DDS, to continue practicing, according to ABC 15.

Here are five insights:

1. In a unanimous decision, the board agreed Dr. Goyal did not put the public in immediate harm.

2. Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey, R, encouraged the dental board to take stronger action after Dr. Goyal falsely obtained an anesthesia certification through forged degrees and documents.

3. Since his arrest, Dr. Goyal pleaded not guilty to the criminal charges.

4. The decision to allow him to continue practicing follows the departure of Elaine Huguin, the board's executive director. She allegedly knew about the forgery in 2014.

5. Now Gov. Ducey is recommending the dental board not hire a new executive director. He proposed the Arizona Department of Health Services step in to take over the board's future duties.
