The former office manager for Penny Lampros, DDS, in Roanoke, Va., pled no contest to embezzling more than $400,000 between 2012 and 2016, according to The Roanoke Times.

Here are four things to know:

1. While pleading no contest to the embezzlement charges, the court dropped six other charges against the office manager. Over the four years, the office manager was in charge of handling Dr. Lampros' schedules, billing and other record keeping.

2. When the office manager left the practice, Dr. Lampros discovered inconsistencies with financial records including voided transitions. Although some of the thefts were small, between $50 and $100, over time the office manager allegedly stole $400,000.

3. The former office manager is required to pay $421,119 in restitution and faces up to 20 years in prison for each embezzlement charge .

4. Dr. Lampros also filed a civil suit against her former office manager. The dentist is seeking $850,000 in compensatory damages and $500,000 in punitive damages. The case is expected to go before a jury Jan. 19, 2019.
