Iowa dental board restricts dentist from practicing after violating competency rules: 4 insights

The Iowa Dental Board ordered William Lay, DDS, to stop practicing endodontics until he passes a course to restore his standing, according to Waverly Newspaper.

Here are four insights:

1. Dr. Lay practices at Waverly, Iowa-based American Family Dentistry. He opened the practice in March 2017.

2. Since being restricted from practicing endodontics, Dr. Lay was required to inform his patients of other endodontists and transfer patients' records at no costs to them

3. Dr. Lay was ordered to pay a $5,000 civil penalty. After completing the endodontics course, his license will continue to be on prohibition for five years.

4. Dr. Lay's dental license will expire Aug. 31, 2020.
