New alternative to traditional dental insurance hits the marketplace: 4 insights

Startup Dental Genie created a new online marketplace to compete with traditional dental insurance models.

Here are four insights:

1. It is estimated 59 percent of Americans have forgone dental care because of costs. As a solution, Dental Genie created an online dental marketplace aiming to help consumers save on dental services and procedures.

2. By visiting dentalgenie.com, users can search by zip code and/or procedure to view a list of dentists available. The site also compares pricing for the services and procedures.

3. While comparing the costs, Dental Genie also shows the cost savings compared to dentists only available through traditional dental insurance. Consumers can save between $200 to $3,000.

4. Dental Genie received a $1 million capital raise. The company has 60-plus dentists throughout Arizona in their network and is looking to expand. By 2020, the company expects to have a network of 10,000 dentists.
