Tennessee dentist pleads guilty to conspiracy to commit fraud, will sell practice

After practicing dentistry for nearly 20 years, Richard Schott, DDS, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud, according to the Daily News Journal.

Dr. Schott practiced at Murfreesboro, Tenn.-based Dental Excellence. He and the former office assistant Kendra Glenn were arrested on federal healthcare fraud charges. Ms. Glenn faces seven counts of healthcare fraud and one count of conspiracy.

The dentist plans to sell his practice and surrender his dental license in February. Currently, Dr. Schott has a suspended license.

Between November 2013 and January 2018, Dr. Schott filed $932,839 in fraudulent claims. He is required to pay the money back along with nearly $1 million to the state and restitution payments to his patients.

A sentencing hearing is scheduled for June 7. Dr. Schott could face up to 10 years in prison.
