Ventura, Calif.-based dentist and periodontist Homayoun Zadeh, DDS, is accused of bribing University of Southern California officials to get his daughter admitted, according to the Ventura County Star.
Dr. Zadeh, who serves as an associate professor and researcher at the Los Angeles-based university, faces charges of conspiring to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud. A federal complaint alleges the dentist agreed to pay $100,000 over six months to get an acceptance letter for his daughter.
The FBI claims Dr. Zadeh said his daughter was an elite lacrosse player,although she did not play competitively. USC Senior Associate Athletic Director Donna Heinel then present Dr. Zadeh's daughter to an admissions subcommittee, stating she was recruited to play lacrosse. Dr. Zadeh allegedly conspired to bribe the athletic director who has since been terminated.
Dr. Zadeh has been placed on leave from USC. An employee at one of his practices said he would be out until early April, according to the newspaper.
