California dentist and husband donate $1M to UCLA dental school to help recruiting, retention

Naomi Ellison, DDS, and her husband William "Jim" Ellison have gifted UC Los Angeles School of Dentistry $1 million.

In return, UCLA Dentistry created the Naomi and Jim Ellison Endowed Chair. The chair will help recruit and retain faculty who will practice and teach restorative dentistry.

UCLA Dentistry has established 12 endowed chairs, with three being created in the past five years.

Dr. Ellison earned her doctor of dental surgery degree at UCLA. She currently is in private practice and holds several leadership positions, including with the California Dental Association. She has served as the chair of UCLA School of Dentistry's board of counselors for the past 25 years.

Mr. Ellison is the former chairman and CEO of Ellison Technologies, a global manufacturing solutions company. He stepped down from his CEO role to pursue philanthropic interests.
