2 U of Texas Health San Antonio dental students accuse professor of sexual harassment

Two female students enrolled at the University of Texas Health San Antonio School of Dentistry filed a lawsuit April 30 against an oral and maxillofacial radiology professor they claim sexually harassed them, according to the San Antonio Express-News.

The two women, who filed the lawsuit anonymously, claim Marcel Noujeim, DDS, was verbally abuse, made demeaning comments, sent inappropriate messages and engaged in unwanted touching. One of the women alleges that when she denied him Dr. Noujeim retaliated by attempting to force her out of the dental program, San Antonio Express-News reports.

In the complaint, the women say Dr. Noujeim created a "smear campaign" after they did not accept his advances. Additionally, the students, who are both from Iran, claim the professor made "racial insults."

Dr. Noujeim's alleged behavior had been ongoing with one student beginning in 2016 and the other since 2017.

Both Dr. Noujeim and the university, who was also named in the lawsuit, declined to comment to the San Antonio Express-News. The university said it has not been served with the lawsuit.

At a news conference outside of the university, the lawyer representing the two women called for Dr. Noujeim to be fired. A federal lawsuit has also been filed on the students' behalf after Title IX complaints and two lawsuits in the state court were ineffective, San Antonio Express-News reports.

Dr. Noujeim has been at the university since 2008, when he was named as the director of the oral and maxillofacial radiology graduate program.
