The opening of a Martinsburg, W.Va.-based free dental clinic scheduled for August has been postponed until further notice due to liability and safety concerns, according to The Journal.
"Due to insurance, liability and safety concerns requiring additional time to resolve, the Good Samaritan Smiles Event must be postponed to an undetermined future date," a statement on the clinic's website said.
Good Samaritan Free Clinic's Director Cosby Potter-Davis reported that patients without dental insurance would be able to access cleanings, extractions and dental repairs. The goal was to raise awareness about the important of dental health.
The clinic expected to treat more than 600 patients during a two-day period. Dentists had already agreed to volunteer at the clinic.
In June, The Journal reported that Good Samaritan Free Clinic had raised $65,000 for the event, but costs were expected to be between $75,000 and $80,000.
