Ex-Arkansas orthodontist allegedly bribed senator

Former Arkansas orthodontist Benjamin Burris, DDS, pleaded not guilty Sept. 9 to claims that he bribed state Sen. Jeremy Hutchinson $157,500, according to NWA Democrat-Gazette.

Former Arkansas orthodontist Benjamin Burris, DDS, pleaded not guilty Sept. 9 to claims that he bribed state Sen. Jeremy Hutchinson $157,500, according to NWA Democrat-Gazette.

Dr. Burris, who operated multiple orthodontics clinics across Arkansas, has been charged with one count of conspiracy to commit honest services wire fraud and 14 counts of aiding and abetting honest services wire fraud. According to prosecutors, Dr. Burris paid Mr. Hutchinson, a lawyer, legal retainers that were allegedly payments for Mr. Hutchinson to pass laws that favored Dr. Burris' clinics.

Mr. Hutchinson pleaded guilty to conspiring to commit federal bribery in connection with Dr. Burris' orthodontist practices June 25.
